Purpose: This document explains the various admin-related actions Org Admins can take in Workbench.

Note: This document is specific to Org Admins only.

Introduction

Organization Admins oversee various aspects of their organization, including managing user membership and lifecycle and updating organization metadata.

Invite users

Org Admins are responsible for inviting new users to Workbench. They can add users via the Workbench web UI or the Workbench CLI. For detailed instructions, see Invite a new user to your organization.

Conversely, Org Admins can revoke a pending user invitation. See Revoke an invitation for instructions.

Manage user lifecycle

Org Admins can disable or archive an existing user in their organization if they should no longer have access to Workbench.

Disabling is ideal for users who may be on temporary leave and are expected to need Workbench access in the future. Archiving a user is more permanent and is ideal for situations when a user is not likely to need Workbench access again. See Disable or archive a user for more details.

View users and their permissions

Org Admins can view a list of users in their organization via the Workbench web UI or Workbench CLI. This list will show the user's ID (email address) and their status (e.g., invited, active).

Org Admins can also see the organization's users, their roles, and whether they have permission to create pods. See Verify details of the new organization for web UI and CLI steps.

Grant Org Admin access

Existing Org Admins can assign the Org Admin role to another user. For more details, see Grant the Organization Admin role.

Update organization metadata

Org Admins can update org metadata (e.g., the org description, ID, and name) via the Workbench web UI or Workbench CLI. See Set organization-level defaults for more information.
